(Columbus, Ohio – June 4, 2014) The Columbus office of Duke Realty Corporation (Duke Realty) has announced the construction of a 304,560-square-foot, built-to-suit industrial warehouse for American Showa, an automobile parts manufacturer and distributor, in Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park (RGLP), a master-planned logistics park being developed in partnership with Capitol Square Ltd. and Columbus Regional Airport Authority. The new facility will be located in the Intermodal North Campus of the Park, immediately adjacent to Rickenbacker Parkway, a Loaded-to-Capacity Zone, and in close proximity to the Norfolk Southern Intermodal Terminal and Rickenbacker International Airport.
“American Showa was looking for a site for its new distribution facility with superior transportation options,” said Ron Reynolds, General Manager: Trade Compliance and Logistics for American Showa. “Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park not only provides us with immediate access to multiple modes of transportation, it also is a designated Free-Trade Zone which offers us potential advantages when it comes to customs entry procedures and import duties.”
“Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park is immediately adjacent to Rickenbacker International Airport and Rickenbacker Intermodal Terminal and accessible via multiple highways, making it the Midwest’s premier location for manufacturing and distribution companies such as American Showa,” said Jim Clark, Senior Vice President of Duke Realty’s Columbus operations. “Duke Realty is pleased that we are able to meet American Showa’s needs by constructing a built-to-suit, state-of-the art warehouse in an unparalleled location. This new facility will put them within a one-day truck drive of more than 50 percent of the U.S. and Canadian populations plus give them the flexibility to use air or rail for the transport of some shipments.”
Located just southeast of Columbus, Ohio, Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park is accessible from I-270, I-71, I-70, Highway 23 and Highway 33. To further aid in the efficient movement of product, Rickenbacker Parkway and other roadways within Rickenbacker Global Logistics Park have been designated as Loaded-to-Capacity zones. This designation enables companies with a special intermodal hauling permit to operate overweight vehicles or move overweight loads within RGLP. By maximizing container capacity, companies can increase load volume by up to 20 percent.
Construction of the America Showa build-to-suit, bulk warehouse is slated to begin in June with delivery early next year. The building will be located on a nearly 27-acre site and feature 32′ clear height; 30 dock doors with levelers, bumpers, seals and lights; two 14′ x 14′ drive-in doors, 54′ x 50′ bay spacing (54′ x 60′ at the dock bays), staging for 36 trailers and a 135′ truck court. The building is expandable by 126,900 and an additional 42 spaces can be added for 42 trailers.
