At the 2019 REITworld Conference in Los Angeles, held November 12-14, Duke Realty was awarded the top prize in Nareit’s first Corporate Award for its Dividends Through Diversity and Inclusion Recognition program. Duke Realty Chairman and CEO Jim Connor was also honored with the Individual Award.
Nareit’s Dividends Through Diversity and Inclusion (DDTI) Initiative promotes improved diversity and inclusion within commercial real estate through recruitment, inclusion and advancement of women and diverse groups. The Diversity and Inclusion Recognition Awards highlight a company and an individual for progress toward those goals.
“The Nareit Diversity & Inclusion Recognition Awards recognize our members who have shown dedication to creating inclusive and diverse workplaces,” said Nareit President and CEO Steven A. Wechsler. “By showcasing the successes of some of the companies at the forefront of D and I, we hope others will be encouraged to implement similar programs in their own businesses.”
Judged by an independent panel, awards were given based on the scope of diversity and inclusion programs, and how they were executed.
Duke Realty’s Diversity and Inclusion program has been in place nearly 20 years and includes community involvement efforts, workplace initiatives, business development, and a supplier diversity program.
“We see more and more that what makes us unique also makes us stronger,” Connor said. “We’re proud to keep working toward greater diversity and inclusion, and we’re only going to increase those efforts in the years to come.”
