Duke Realty Provides Support for Red Cross Hurricane Recovery Efforts in Savannah

Industrial property owner donates 100,000 SF of warehouse space along with financial donations to help area residents affected by the storm.

(Savannah and Atlanta, Ga. – Oct. 18, 2016) Duke Realty, a leading nationwide commercial real estate company and the largest industrial property owner in Savannah, has donated a 100,000-square-foot warehouse, located at 194 Gulfstream Road in Savannah, to the American Red Cross. The relief organization will use the warehouse to store supplies for use in its shelters and other services it brings to the area. In addition, Duke Realty, along with its Savannah partner Northpoint Industrial Realty, has pledged $5,000 to the Red Cross, as well as $2,000 to Operation Feed Savannah.

“Duke Realty sympathizes with those affected deeply by Hurricane Matthew,” said Chris Brown, Senior Vice President of Duke Realty’s Southeast operations. “As a company, we are committed to supporting the communities where we do business and, in this instance, we were fortunate to have a facility available to meet the Red Cross’ needs.”

Savannah Economic & Development Authority leaders, along with Steve Grable, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain and Logistics Solutions for JLL, were able to help the American Red Cross identify and lease the building. “Duke Realty responded quickly when asked about available space for use by the Red Cross,” said Grable. “Savannah is a high-demand market for warehouse space, so we appreciate Duke Realty’s willingness to forego the opportunity to lease the building and donate it instead.”

Wrenn Blalock with Northpoint Industrial Realty also was willing to delay leasing efforts on the property. “During difficult times, putting our community needs first is more important than conducting business as usual.”

“The American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia appreciates the partnership of Duke Realty and Northpoint Realty to help with the relief efforts after Hurricane Matthew,” said Victoria Ten Broeck, Development Officer. “It takes a community to rebuild and we appreciate both partnerships as we continue to work with our neighbors to help them on their road to recovery.”

Plans call for the Red Cross to use 194 Gulfstream Road through the end of 2016.
