Because what we do impacts communities in ways that go beyond the buildings we operate, Duke Realty is committed to corporate responsibility and to giving back. Those efforts have resulted in a partnership with the American Red Cross, and this year that commitment grew. As reported in REIT Magazine, Duke Realty is an American Red Cross Disaster Responder member.
Disaster Responder members bring urgently needed funding to American Red Cross’s annual disaster program, which enables the organization to provide emergency supplies, food, and shelter all over the country. The organization also contributes volunteers, warehousing, and technology assistance—all of which is imperative for the organization as it responds to nearly 70,000 disasters every year.
Duke Realty’s reach made the partnership an especially good fit said Senior Vice President of Human Resources Jenny Bean in the article: “[Duke Realty] felt it was important to team up with an organization that does widespread good across the U.S. and offers our associates the opportunity to volunteer. There are volunteer opportunities in each city where we have a presence for our associates to be directly engaged in helping alleviate human suffering and assist in building resilient communities.”
Part of that effort has been to install home smoke detectors in more than a dozen communities through Red Cross’s “Sound the Alarm Campaign,” donating blood, and preparing kits for overseas troops.
“The fabric of our society and economy is strengthened when we work together to engage with our communities and lend a helping hand to those in need,” Bean said.
