(Nashville, Tenn. and Indianapolis, Ind. – April 10, 2013) The Nashville office of Duke Realty Corporation (Duke Realty) has earned the company’s “CEO Award for Diversity,” an award presented to the business unit in the company that exemplifies a significant commitment to diversity and inclusion through its programs and activities and achieves notable results due to its efforts. The CEO Award for Diversity, which was first instituted by Duke Realty in 2008, is part of the company’s overall goal of sustaining a culture of diversity and inclusion throughout the organization.
The selection of the Nashville office was based on its leadership and success in four areas during 2012: business development, associate recruitment and retention, community outreach, and vendor/supplier development. A notable accomplishment by the Nashville team was its ability to integrate vendors and customers into its service efforts to multiply the impact made in the community. In 2012, the Nashville office increased the percentage of vendors enrolled in the company’s diverse vendor database, with 100 percent enrollment of property management and maintenance suppliers. The office also achieved 100 percent support from associates for the United Way, as well as 100 percent participation in diversity and inclusion education. In addition, the Nashville team provided support to nearly 20 different community initiatives, including sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity build for the second consecutive year.
“The Nashville team embraces the spirit of diversity and inclusion as a business imperative, as evidenced by the local diversity action plan we developed and implemented,” said Jeff Palmquist, Senior Vice President of Duke Realty’s Nashville office. “We are proud to receive this award and are committed to pursuing ongoing diversity initiatives and engaging diverse groups in our business.”
“Diversity is an ongoing and important initiative at our company,” said Denny Oklak, Chairman and CEO of Duke Realty. “Our employees, tenants, customers, suppliers and potential candidates for hire are increasingly diverse, validating the importance of enhancing our ability to value all people, no matter their position, education, background or beliefs.”
This is the first year that the Nashville office has been awarded the Duke Realty CEO Award for Diversity. Duke Realty business units across the country submit detailed applications outlining their diversity and inclusion initiatives and results to compete for this annual award.
